Equilibrium

Just a few days ago, I posted about Kathleen;  she is 82 and I tell how she has always been in such good health.  See the post here

On Sunday night, TWO DAYS after that post, Kathleen suffered a heart attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  She is in the hospital, miles away from her home in Idaho.  It is likely she will have surgery.

Then, I just got off the phone with my friend whose 36 year old niece died of a brain tumor a few days ago.  (Side note:  6 women in the same neighborhood also had brain tumors!)

I hate stories like this.

I hate news that involves:

health issues
car accidents
job loss
illness
divorce

It totally upsets my equilibrium; it throws me for a loop.

I want happiness for everyone all the time.

I really WANT "Happily Ever After!"

Not just for me, but for everyone else as well.

Does there always have to be opposition?

I guess so.

When Women Get Together....

they have a lot to talk about.

The conversation starts out by discussing; kids, jobs, church, recipes, favorite books and tv shows, family relationships, friends. Then, if it gets later, and no woman has left yet, the gloves come off and the conversation turns to......drum roll please....SPOUSES.

Recently, women had this to say:

"When we were dating, he would get pretty moody. I can still remember thinking that once we got married, I would MAKE him so happy that he'd never be moody. As a happy person, I didn't understand such mood swings. But, I was wrong...he still gets moody. It's tough."

"I would NEVER marry a man who has issues with his father/family. Too much baggage and who can afford counseling?"

"My husband is a tight-wad....I mean, like spending money is ALWAYS an issue. Even if I save, and the money is in the budget, he gets upset when I spend money. Recently, after 30 years of marriage, I asked him when he thought we would have enough money that I could spend money on our kids and not have him get upset....his answer...NEVER! It's hard to have money be such a constant issue."

"It's pretty ironic...the thing that attracted me to him in the first place has become the thing that drives me crazy about him now! Not good!"

Later that evening, I thought of Jean...a widow of five years. I was thinking how much she misses her husband. In all our conversations, she has never mentioned his faults, and only seems to remember his good qualities.

Is that what it takes to remember the good....DEATH?

Untimely Death

She had one of the most interesting and unique homes I had ever been in.

I wish that I could remember all that she told me about it. She and her husband had built it together from logs they had cut and hewn. Away from town, out in the country, where there was space.

Every room was unique and had a warm, cozy feel.

The annual Christmas party was at her home. The large, open kitchen with its open shelves bespoke of a room where family would be entertained, where friends would love to spend time, where good things happened.

The food was good, but it was the atmosphere in the home that made it so very special each year.

The professors relied on her; she was efficient, effective and very good at what she did.

She was loved and revered by many.

One day she told me something that I think of every time I go to a book store. She said that about once a week, she and her husband would drive the forty miles to Barnes & Noble for "date night." They would spend a couple of hours in the store...each in their own favorite section. Just looking, just browsing, connected by a love of books and each other.

Beautiful Jeanne, your life was cut way too short, way too soon.

You will be missed...oh, you will be missed!

Cancer Takes Its Ugly Toll on Two Dear Cousins

In 2004, my cousin, Ann Merrill died of liver cancer. Her sister, Karole, died on April 18 of this year of breast cancer which had spread throughout her body. How does cancer strike two beautiful and wonderful people in the same family? And, in their 60's?

So hard to understand from a statistical and medical standpoint...

Interestingly, their father just died last year at 100 years of age.

Ann and Karole, I'll always remember you both as selfless, positive, and always cheerful...thanks for your noble lives of goodness.
