Irony

The speaker at the Saturday session and two of the speakers at the Sunday session of Stake conference talked about wasting time on technology.  They said that technology had its place and could be used for good things, but that perhaps we spend too much of our time on it and we should be more productive.  And, as parents, we should set the example.

 I enjoyed the talks and thought they were right on.  I need to be more cautious of that also.

But, the irony of it was - sitting right in front of me were a father, a mother, and a teen-age son.  The father and the son were playing games on their gadgets.

OOPS, they forgot to listen!

Thankful Every Day 4

H.E.A.L.T.H.

Last night I learned that my neighbor has
breast cancer.

What a blow for her!

So, today, and every other day, while we have our health, I give thanks for that.

Mobility....

Each week, RAH and I visit Sylvia; she is confined to a bed (once a wheelchair, but now she pretty much is in bed all day.)  Every time we walk out of the nursing home, I am reminded what a glorious thing it is to:

WALK,
MOVE ABOUT,
GET IN AND OUT OF A CAR,
ANSWER A DOOR,
STAND UP,
SIT ON THE FLOOR,
CLIMB,
WORK.

So, today, my heart is filled with gratitude for mobility!

Thankful Every Day 2

2.  I am thankful for music...right now, I am listening to my ITouch and all Allen's songs that are on there.  Oh, I love music...it has such power to:

make happy
comfort
spice up a day
evoke memories
bring the spirit in a home
cheer up
just make me smile!

So, on day two of being grateful, I am so grateful for music.  I had it in my home growing up and I have it in our home now....what a great blessing music has been my entire life!

Thankful Every Day

I am going to try to post something every day that I am thankful for.  I may miss a day or two, but I will catch up.

These are not in any order, but all are things I feel so grateful for.

They are inspiring and I appreciate what they do, which is not easy.

Halloween Happenings

Every year they make me smile...

Clever, horrid, creative, fun, funky, unique costumes come parading at our door.

But, my favorite Halloween story happened last night.

Pat was talking to me on my front entryway.  She introduced me to her granddaughter and said her grandson was around here somewhere.

Just then her grandson came up carrying a DOG.

"Look what a lady gave me!" the grandson shrieked.  "She said she just couldn't handle it any more, so she gave it to me!  Please can I keep it?"

Halloween has now taken on a new meaning...kids are now the new animal shelters...because what child could ever refuse a pet?????  The cat or dog would fit perfectly in the big huge pillow cases the kids carry and there's sort of a holiday feeling in the air, so why not give away a dog??????

I'm still smiling.

Files From the Mission Field

The S's had a one year old child who fell in their pool.  He lived in a vegetative state for 4 years, then one day - inexplicably - he stopped breathing and died at age five.

Sister T's son died in his 50s of alcoholism.

The A's had an athletic son who was married, a student at BYU, who died suddenly at age 25 of an enlarged heart.

Sister H's 11 year old son died in a boating accident.

MC had a son die of multiple sclerosis in his 40's.  She also lost 3 children at birth.

No parent should have a CHILD die before they do; it's not the natural order of things.

I'm glad for the knowledge we have that we will see our loved ones again.
